Twisted Oak Brewery is a small but beautifully formed micro-brewery based just outside of Wrington in North Somerset. They use traditional brewing techniques & 100% renewable energy to create both modern craft and traditional brews.  The brewery is owned and run by Keith and Deb Hayles (pictured right) and Simon Gait.

In October 2017, Weston-super-Mare’s Chamber of Commerce, together with the Weston Mercury, launched a campaign for Weston Super Mare to become an approved Plastic-free community. As a dedicated group, they have been working hard ever since and in 2018 received accreditation from Surfers Against Sewage, with over 50+ amazing local business heroes signing up. to reduce the single-use plastic within our community.

In Oct 2021, twelve children from Portishead Primary School set up a pupil led 'eco committee' which, meeting fortnightly, holds their school to account for sustainability and climate action through an annual audit. They are also passionate and committed ambassadors in their community through their Eco6 (Year 6) group, which actively promotes parent/guardian and wider public engagement.

Having enjoyed making use of bulk food shops whilst in Melbourne, Australia, 25 year old Simply Green owner Bethan wanted to introduce this way of shopping to the town she grew up in. Moreover, she wanted to make sure that it was accessible to as many people as possible. Simply Green first started in November 2018 in the form of a market stall, before opening her shop on Nailsea High St in March 2019. But Bethan is more than just a shop keeper, she is active on social media offering hints & tips about how to live a more sustainable, plastic and waste free lifestyle and is a passionate advocate for affordable shopping, that doesn't cost the earth.

Established in 1987, Mendip Outdoor Pursuits has grown into the biggest outdoor activity provider in the South West, and if you wander across their site in the Mendip AONB, and you’ll find a thick, ancient woodland full of diverse habitats and rare grasslands. They recognise that one of the biggest impacts we can have on the environment is through outdoor education. By gaining an appreciation for nature, Mendip encourage individuals, groups, and families to do more to support sustainability. As well as helping thousands of people enjoy and appreciate the natural environment, Mendip are in the process of auditing every aspect of their business to improve organisational sustainability.

How do the awards work?

Step 1 - members of the public nominate their favourite business, organisation, person or product.

Step 2 - the nominees will be contacted to confirm they wish to take part, and answer a short series of questions designed to check that they meet the award criteria

Step 3 - an independent panel will shortlist the nominees who will then be invited to attend the award ceremony as guests of our sponsors

Step 4 - the winner will be announced at the award ceremony on 30th Sept at the Weston Super Mare Winter Gardens

Please note that participation is voluntary, and no endorsement by Love The Future CIC should be inferred.

In 2022, those shortlisted will be restricted to North Somerset.
