Equality & Diversity Statement

Aim

We aim to treat everyone equally, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. Moreover, we wish to create an atmosphere of friendship, respect, and care for each other that encourages participation and creates space to speak freely without fear of denigration or belittlement. It is our belief that with a willingness to listen and starting from a position of trust, we can help everyone feel valued.

Accessibility

All our meetings and events are held in venues that are accessible to wheelchair users. When there are more than 40 people at an event we aim to use a PA system and a hearing loop. We will endeavour to ensure meetings are suitable for all ages, including those with children.

Diversity

We aim to organise a range of events and activities to suit the interests and meet the needs of a wide variety of people. LTF CIC is open to new ideas and particularly prioritises opportunities for participants to share their cultural heritage with one another.

Inclusion & Respect

All participants should be made to feel equally welcome and included at all meetings and events. Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise offensive and inflammatory remarks and behaviour are not acceptable. These constitute harassment, and have no place in the running of LTF CIC and its activities. Indeed, we will not hesitate to go beyond the basics to call out behaviour that may be considered rude or offensive, irrespective of whether it constitutes harassment, and to discuss its impact and any insights that may be gained.

Dealing with discrimination and harassment

If any particpant feels they have been discriminated against or harassed at an event they should raise this with Charley Pattison Hall, Director, who leads on equality & diversity on behalf of LTF CIC. She will investigate the complaint, listening to all participants involved. (If the complaint is against her, she will not be part of conducting the investigation).

If the complaint is against a particular individual, this person will have the opportunity to express their point of view, accompanied by a friend. The person making the complaint will also have this opportunity.

If the complaint is against LTF CIC as a whole, the Directors must work to ensure that such discrimination is not repeated in the future, and must inform those involved of how they propose to do this.

LTF CIC will support people who feel they have been harassed or discriminated against, and will not victimise or treat them less well because they have raised this.

This policy was adopted 1 Jan 2023 and will be reviewed bi-annually.
